HOCATT ozone sauna in Franklin, TN

At our Franklin clinic. Transdermal ozone, far infrared, steam, carbonic acid, red light and PEMF in one 30-minute session. Sessions run about 30 min. Nothing is recommended until your bloodwork tells us why you need it and in what order.

What it costs to start
  • Free discovery call, then a $250 consult ($100 credited to your labs)
  • Panels from $495 with a 45-minute lab review and written plan
  • Franklin, TN · about 20 minutes from Nashville · HSA & FSA eligible
The short version
  • Ten therapies in thirty minutes — ozone, carbonic acid, steam, far infrared, photon light, PEMF, microcurrent, oxygen, essential oils and vibration, all in one chamber.
  • The sequencing is the design. Carbonic acid opens your pores and dilates capillaries in the first few minutes, which is what allows the ozone that follows to actually be absorbed.
  • You never inhale ozone. Your head stays outside the chamber the whole time, and the chamber is cleared through a destructor before the door opens.
  • The heat alone has serious evidence behind it — a 21-year Finnish cohort found frequent sauna use associated with 63 percent lower sudden cardiac death.
  • It is the easiest of our therapies to be consistent with — and the one our members use most. Thirty minutes, no needles, no downtime, and most people sleep better the same night.

What HOCATT actually is

HOCATT stands for Hyperthermic Ozone and Carbonic Acid Transdermal Technology. In plain terms: a single-person chamber you sit in with your head outside, which runs up to ten therapies at once for about thirty minutes.

Your head stays outside the chamber for a simple reason: we want the ozone absorbed through your skin, not into your lungs. A soft collar seals at the neck, your body receives the ozone transdermally, and you breathe ordinary room air or pure humidified oxygen from a jet at the collar.

What separates HOCATT from an ozone generator bolted onto a sauna is that the modalities are sequenced. Each one is timed to make the next one work better.

The ten modalities, and the order they run in

This is the part worth understanding, because the order explains why the whole is more than the sum of the parts.

Modality When it runs across a 30-minute session Steam & hyperthermia core temperature rises Carbonic acid (CO₂) opens pores, dilates vessels first 3–8 minutes — this is what lets the ozone in Transdermal ozone absorbed through the skin Far infrared deep, penetrating heat Pure oxygen breathing via a jet at the collar Photon light, PEMF, microcurrent, vibration Ozone extraction destructor clears the chamber 0 min 8 15 23 30 The order is the whole design — carbonic acid has to open the skin before the ozone arrives.
Carbonic acidCO₂ meets steam to form carbonic acid, which opens pores and dilates capillaries.
Transdermal ozoneAbsorbed through skin that carbonic acid has just prepared. Never inhaled.
Steam & far infraredCore temperature rises to roughly 40–42°C, driving circulation and sweat.
Oxygen & lightPure humidified oxygen at the collar; full-spectrum photon light throughout.
PEMF & microcurrentPulsed fields and frequency-specific current support cellular recovery.

Carbonic acid first is the non-negotiable step. CO2 reacts with the steam to form carbonic acid, which opens the pores and dilates the capillary beds feeding the skin — and it shifts your nervous system toward parasympathetic while it does so. Only then does the ozone arrive, into skin that is warm, open and well perfused. Reverse that order and most of the ozone simply sits on the surface.

HOCATT versus an infrared sauna

People ask this constantly, and it is a fair question given the price difference. An infrared sauna is a genuinely good thing. It is also doing one job.

There is also a straightforward physics point that gets overlooked. In an open sauna you are heating a room, and your body sheds a great deal of that heat back into the air around you. In an enclosed chamber, with your body sealed inside and saturated steam surrounding it, far less heat escapes — so your core temperature climbs higher and faster, and the heat penetrates deeper into tissue rather than dissipating off the surface of your skin. You reach a meaningful thermal load in thirty minutes that an open sauna would take considerably longer to produce, if it produced it at all.

If you have an infrared sauna at home, keep using it — the heat evidence is real and consistency matters more than sophistication. HOCATT is what you use when you want the ozone, the carbonic acid and the layered modalities working together, and when you want the heat itself delivered at a depth an open room cannot reach.

Curious how it feels? Most people are surprised.

Thirty minutes, head out, no needles. Your discovery call is free and we will tell you honestly whether HOCATT is the right place to start.

Top 10 HOCATT benefits

Ten therapies, one chair, thirty minutes. Booked separately you would be looking at five appointments, five parking spaces and most of a day. Here is what each one is doing for you, ranked by how directly the mechanism applies.

01

Detoxification & Toxic Burden

This is the most common reason people book it, and the mechanism is unusually direct. Heat drives sweating, which is a genuine excretory route for certain heavy metals and persistent organic compounds. Carbonic acid dilates the capillary beds feeding the skin. Ozone supports the oxidative pathways your liver uses to make fat-soluble toxins water-soluble enough to leave. You are opening an exit route and increasing flow through it at the same time.

Most common reason · Sweat + circulation + ozone · Drainage support firstWhat the evidence showsSweat is a documented excretion route for several heavy metals and persistent organic compounds. Carbonic acid dilates cutaneous capillary beds, increasing perfusion to the tissue doing the excreting.
02

Circulation & Cardiovascular Health

This is where the strongest evidence lives, and it comes from heat. A Finnish cohort of 2,315 men followed for a median of nearly 21 years found that men using a sauna four to seven times weekly had a 63 percent lower risk of sudden cardiac death and 50 percent lower fatal cardiovascular disease than once-weekly users. Passive heat raises heart rate and cardiac output much the way moderate exercise does. HOCATT adds carbonic acid and ozone on top of that.

2,315 men, 21 years · 63% lower sudden cardiac death · Strongest evidence hereWhat the evidence showsLaukkanen and colleagues followed 2,315 men for a median of nearly 21 years and found those using a sauna four to seven times weekly had a 63 percent lower risk of sudden cardiac death and 50 percent lower fatal cardiovascular disease than once-weekly users.
03

Chronic Infection, Lyme & Mold

Two mechanisms working together. Ozone is directly hostile to anaerobic organisms, and many of the bugs behind chronic infection are built for low-oxygen environments. Raised core temperature is separately unfriendly to a lot of pathogens — fever is not an accident of illness, it is a strategy. For patients in a chronic infection protocol, HOCATT is one of the gentlest ways to apply both.

Ozone + hyperthermia · Gentler than IV ozone · Sequenced after drainageWhat the evidence showsOzone is directly active against anaerobic organisms, and elevated core temperature independently impairs replication of many pathogens. Fever is an evolved antimicrobial strategy rather than an incidental symptom.
04

Immune Resilience

Heat exposure raises heat shock proteins and modulates immune signalling, and the same Finnish cohort work found frequent sauna use associated with a meaningfully lower risk of pneumonia. Ozone contributes immune modulation of its own — regulating rather than simply stimulating. For people who catch everything going around, this is a reasonable thing to do through the winter.

Heat shock proteins · Lower pneumonia risk in cohort · Modulating, not stimulatingWhat the evidence showsA prospective cohort study found frequent sauna bathing associated with substantially reduced pneumonia risk. Heat exposure raises heat shock protein expression and modulates immune signalling.
05

Recovery, Pain & Athletic Performance

Heat increases blood flow to muscle, PEMF and microcurrent support tissue recovery, and improved oxygen delivery speeds clearance of the metabolites that make you sore. Passive heat also produces some of the same adaptations as endurance training — plasma volume expansion and improved thermoregulation — which is why heat protocols have quietly become standard in elite sport.

Heat + PEMF + microcurrent · Plasma volume adaptation · Day after a hard sessionWhat the evidence showsPassive heat exposure produces plasma volume expansion and improved thermoregulation — adaptations that overlap with endurance training, which is why heat protocols are used in elite sport.
06

Stress, Nervous System & Sleep

The carbonic acid phase does something specific and underrated: it shifts you from sympathetic toward parasympathetic — out of fight-or-flight and into rest-and-digest. Combine that with thirty minutes of enforced stillness and warmth, and the effect on sleep that night is one of the things people report most consistently. For anyone who has been running on adrenaline for years, this is not a small thing.

Carbonic acid drives it · Sleep often improves first · Enforced stillness helpsWhat the evidence showsCarbon dioxide balneotherapy shifts autonomic balance toward parasympathetic dominance. Hartmann and colleagues documented improved peripheral perfusion with serial percutaneous carbon dioxide application in Angiology.
07

Metabolic Support & Body Composition

Raising core temperature raises metabolic rate, and a HOCATT session produces a cardiovascular response similar to moderate activity. That is genuinely useful, particularly for people whose training capacity is limited by pain or fatigue. What I tell patients is this: this supports a metabolic plan, it does not replace one, and anyone selling a sauna as a weight-loss device is overselling.

Raises metabolic rate · Supports, does not replace · Useful when training is limitedWhat the evidence showsElevated core temperature raises metabolic rate, and a sauna session produces cardiovascular responses comparable to moderate-intensity exercise, which is useful where training capacity is limited by pain or fatigue.
08

Skin Health & Appearance

Deep sweating clears the pores, improved circulation delivers more nutrients to the dermis, ozone is antimicrobial at the skin surface, and photon light adds a photobiomodulation effect on collagen. Most people notice their skin before they notice anything else — it is usually the first visible result and it tends to show up within a few sessions.

Often noticed first · Circulation + light · Visible in a few sessionsWhat the evidence showsDeep sweating clears sebaceous ducts, improved perfusion increases nutrient delivery to the dermis, and photon light contributes photobiomodulation effects on collagen synthesis.
09

Lymphatic Flow & Swelling

Your lymphatic system has no pump — it moves through muscle contraction, breathing and vessel dilation. Heat plus carbonic acid opens those channels, and the whole-body vibration component adds mechanical assistance. For people who feel puffy, heavy or congested, this is often the modality that shifts it.

No pump — needs help · Heat + CO₂ + vibration · Good for puffinessWhat the evidence showsThe lymphatic system has no pump and depends on muscle contraction, respiratory pressure changes and vessel dilation. Heat, carbonic acid and whole-body vibration each address one of those mechanisms.
10

Longevity & Hormesis

Everything above traces back to one principle: a controlled, brief stress that leaves the system more resilient afterwards. Heat shock proteins fold damaged proteins back into shape. Ozone trains your antioxidant enzymes upward. This is the same mechanism as exercise and fasting — and the Finnish mortality data suggests it accrues over years rather than sessions.

Heat shock proteins · Same principle as exercise · Accrues over yearsWhat the evidence showsHeat shock proteins act as molecular chaperones refolding damaged proteins, and hormetic stress exposure is the mechanism common to exercise, fasting and heat. The Finnish mortality data suggests benefit accrues over years.

What patients commonly experience under our care

When patients receive the proper guidance, here is what they commonly experience under our care.

I have now supervised a great many HOCATT sessions, and the order in which the benefits appear is consistent enough to be predictable. This is what I tell patients to expect.

  • The first night — sleep. Improved sleep is the most frequently reported effect. The carbonic acid phase shifts the autonomic nervous system from sympathetic toward parasympathetic dominance, which helps bring cortisol back into its proper rhythm — and a cortisol curve that falls when it should is what allows melatonin to rise at night. Patients routinely describe the deepest sleep they have had in months.
  • The first week — energy and fluid balance. Sustained energy through the afternoon rather than the mid-afternoon decline most people have come to accept as normal. Clearer skin. Reduced fluid retention, as heat and carbonic acid open lymphatic channels that have no pump of their own.
  • Two to four sessions — recovery and resilience. Less joint and muscular discomfort, faster recovery from training, and fewer of the minor respiratory infections that had been costing patients a week at a time. All of that is consistent with the heat-shock protein and immune-modulation literature.
  • Across a full course — measurable change. This is where it appears on paper. Blood pressure reduction. Lower resting heart rate. Falling hs-CRP. Improved heart rate variability. These are precisely the cardiovascular markers the Finnish heat research would predict, and we track them on follow-up panels rather than asking you to take our word for it.

If you want something that touches detoxification, circulation, immunity and your nervous system in one sitting, this is where I would start. Schedule a consultation and my team will find the root of what is going on and build the rhythm around it. Care from a team who genuinely wants you well.

Around the fifth or sixth session, the phrase I hear most often is some version of: “I had forgotten what it felt like to have energy.”

What I tell patients is this. Response varies between patients, and someone with an unaddressed root cause will get less from HOCATT than someone whose foundations are already in place. But for thirty minutes that asks for no needle, no downtime and no recovery, the return is among the best in this clinic — which is why it is the therapy our members use most.

What the research actually covers

While there is little research on the HOCATT machine itself, the individual therapies it delivers have strong evidence behind them.

What exists instead is a substantial body of evidence on the individual components. Heat therapy is the standout: a Finnish cohort of 2,315 men followed for a median of nearly 21 years found that frequent sauna use was associated with a 63 percent lower risk of sudden cardiac death, and a later study of 1,688 men and women found cardiovascular mortality decreasing linearly with sauna frequency, with no threshold. Ozone, photobiomodulation, PEMF and carbon-dioxide balneotherapy all have their own literatures.

So the claim I am comfortable making is this: HOCATT stacks a set of individually well-supported modalities in a sequence that makes mechanistic sense. Heat therapy alone has mortality data behind it that most supplements could only dream of. Layer nine more modalities on top, in the right order, and you have a genuinely serious thirty minutes.

What a HOCATT session is actually like

Thirty minutes, sitting up, head out, in warm steam. Most people find it the most enjoyable therapy we offer.

  1. You undress completely and sit in the chamber. Skin contact is the whole point of transdermal delivery. You have a private space to change and the door closes with only your head outside.
  2. Steam builds and the carbonic acid phase begins. Many people notice a light tingling as the pores open. This runs for the first three to eight minutes.
  3. Ozone is introduced and you sweat. Properly. This is the main phase, and it is where the heat does its work. There is an oxygen jet at your collar if you want it.
  4. The chamber clears and you shower. Everything is pulled through an ozone destructor before the door opens. Hydrate well and expect to feel pleasantly wrung out.

Safety, and who should wait

HOCATT is well tolerated by most people, and the head-outside design removes the one genuinely serious risk associated with ozone.

Common and manageable: pleasant fatigue afterwards, occasional light-headedness on standing, and thirst. All of it is heat and hydration, and all of it settles quickly.

Not appropriate: pregnancy, uncontrolled cardiovascular disease, G6PD deficiency, active bleeding disorders, and anyone who cannot regulate their own body temperature safely.

Requires review first: hyperthyroidism, recent surgery, low blood pressure that already causes dizziness, seizure disorders, and any implanted electrical device, because of the PEMF and microcurrent components.

As with every oxidative therapy we offer, we look at your G6PD and your iron picture before we start — and if you are carrying a heavy infection load, we make sure your drainage routes are genuinely open before we mobilise anything.

How often to go, and what it costs

Consistency matters far more than intensity. This is a hormetic therapy and the benefits accumulate.

  • Weeks 1–8: one to two sessions a week. For heavy detoxification or chronic infection work, sometimes twice weekly, always with drainage support in place.
  • Maintenance: weekly or fortnightly, indefinitely.
  • Cost: single sessions around Nashville, Franklin and Brentwood generally run about $175 to $300, with packages and memberships lowering the effective rate considerably.

For our members, HOCATT is included in the monthly programme rather than billed per visit — deliberately, because a therapy that works through consistency should not be priced in a way that discourages it.

Getting HOCATT near Nashville

HOCATT units are expensive and require training to run properly, so they are considerably less common around Middle Tennessee than standard infrared saunas.

You will find infrared saunas in gyms, spas and recovery studios across Nashville and Brentwood. Full HOCATT with the ozone and carbonic acid phases is a much shorter list, and it belongs in a clinical setting where somebody has looked at your history first.

Ours is at 329 S. Royal Oaks Blvd, Franklin, Tennessee 37064 — about twenty minutes south of downtown Nashville, minutes from Cool Springs and Brentwood, and easy from Spring Hill and across Williamson County.

A note from Dr. Axe

HOCATT is the therapy I recommend when someone wants to do something meaningful but is not ready for a needle. It is thirty minutes, it is genuinely pleasant, and it touches detoxification, circulation, immunity and the nervous system in one sitting.

God built our bodies to respond to heat, to movement, to stress that is survivable. Fever is not a malfunction — it is a strategy. Sweating is not incidental — it is an exit route. What a machine like this does is let us apply those ancient signals deliberately, at the right dose, in the right order, to someone whose modern life has given them very little of any of it.

Common questions about HOCATT in Nashville and Franklin

What is HOCATT?

HOCATT stands for Hyperthermic Ozone and Carbonic Acid Transdermal Technology. It is a single-person chamber you sit in with your head outside, which layers up to ten therapies into one thirty-minute session — transdermal ozone, carbonic acid, steam hyperthermia, far infrared, photon light, PEMF, frequency-specific microcurrent, pure oxygen breathing, essential oils and whole-body vibration. Your head stays outside the chamber the entire time, so you never inhale ozone.

Where can I do HOCATT near Nashville?

We have a HOCATT at The Longevity Club + Clinic, 329 S. Royal Oaks Blvd in Franklin, Tennessee — about twenty minutes south of downtown Nashville and minutes from Brentwood, Cool Springs and Spring Hill. HOCATT units are expensive and require training, so they are far less common than standard infrared saunas around Middle Tennessee.

How is HOCATT different from an infrared sauna?

An infrared sauna gives you one thing: heat. HOCATT gives you heat plus nine other modalities running in a deliberate sequence — and the sequencing is the point. Carbonic acid opens your pores and dilates capillaries first, which is precisely what allows the ozone that follows to be absorbed transdermally rather than sitting on the skin. You cannot reproduce that by adding an ozone generator to a sauna.

Do you breathe the ozone in a HOCATT session?

No, and this is the most important safety feature of the design. Your head remains outside the chamber throughout, with a collar sealing at the neck. Ozone is genuinely harmful to lung tissue, which is exactly why transdermal delivery exists. At the end of the session the chamber contents are pulled through an ozone destructor before the door opens.

How often should you do HOCATT?

Most people start with one to two sessions a week for six to eight weeks, then settle into weekly or fortnightly maintenance. For heavy detoxification or chronic infection work we sometimes go twice weekly at the start, always with drainage support in place first. It is a hormetic therapy, so consistency matters more than intensity.

Is HOCATT safe?

For most people it is very well tolerated. The most common experiences are pleasant fatigue afterwards and occasionally light-headedness on standing, which is a heat and hydration effect. It is not appropriate in pregnancy, with uncontrolled cardiovascular disease, in G6PD deficiency, with active bleeding disorders, or for anyone who cannot regulate their own temperature safely. Hyperthyroidism and recent surgery warrant review first.

What does HOCATT cost near Nashville?

Single sessions in the Nashville and Franklin area generally run about $175 to $300, with packages and memberships bringing the effective rate down considerably. Because the benefits are cumulative, it is more sensible to price a course of six to ten sessions than to think in single visits.

Is there research specifically on HOCATT?

Very little on the device itself, and we would rather say that plainly. What does exist is a substantial body of research on the individual modalities it combines — particularly heat therapy, where a Finnish cohort of more than 2,000 men followed for two decades found that frequent sauna use was associated with markedly lower cardiovascular and all-cause mortality. The reasonable position is that HOCATT stacks well-supported modalities in a sensible order, not that the stack itself has been trialled.
