What we look at

Six ways of seeing you. One plan.

Most nutrition advice starts with a food list. Ours starts with you, measured six different ways, so every food on your plan has a reason to be there.

  1. Your full historySymptoms, timeline, digestion, sleep, stress, cycles, medications, family history and everything you've already tried.
  2. Advanced bloodworkUp to 115 markers read against optimal ranges: iron, thyroid, insulin, omega-3s, intracellular minerals, hormones and more.
  3. Ancient tongue diagnosisA Traditional Chinese Medicine assessment of color, coating and shape that shows patterns labs can't.
  4. InBody body compositionMuscle, body fat, visceral fat, water balance and phase angle, measured in about a minute.
  5. Advanced testingGI-MAP stool analysis, food sensitivities, genetics like MTHFR, and a 4-point cortisol curve when your case calls for it.
  6. Your goals & real lifeWhat you want to feel, change and prevent, plus your schedule, cooking style and the foods you love.

Inside your consultation

How we build your plan.

Dr. Josh Axe taking a detailed health history with a patient

Your history, in great detail

We start by listening, for a long time.

Before we talk about a single food, we go through your story: what changed, when, and what you've already tried. The pattern is usually hiding in the details.

  • Your health timeline and when symptoms started
  • Digestion, energy, sleep, stress and mood
  • Cycles and hormones, or the male equivalent
  • Medications, supplements and what you've tried
  • Family history
  • How you eat now, and what you love to eat

  • Homocysteine14.8Eggs + crimini mushrooms
  • Vitamin D32Midday sun + D3

Your advanced bloodwork

Every food is tied to a number.

Up to 115 markers, read against optimal ranges. When your omega-3 index is 3.3% or your ferritin is 24, your plan says exactly what to eat about it, and how often.

Ancient tongue diagnosis

Your tongue shows patterns labs can't.

Tongue diagnosis has been at the center of Traditional Chinese Medicine for more than two thousand years. We read it next to your Western labs, two languages describing the same body, and it shapes both your food choices and your herbal formula.

What we readColorCoatingShapeMoistureCracksScalloped edges

A pale, swollen tongue with scalloped edges often points to weak digestion, which in Chinese medicine calls for warm, cooked, easy-to-digest foods. A red tip with a thin coating points somewhere else entirely.

What it changes in her plan: protein at every meal and strength work to build muscle, and fewer refined carbs to bring visceral fat down. We rescan at 90 days.

InBody body composition

Your scale weight hides what matters.

In about a minute, the InBody measures skeletal muscle, body fat, visceral fat, water balance and phase angle, a marker of cellular health. It tells us how much protein you need, whether you're losing muscle, and what's really changing when the scale doesn't move.

Advanced testing

When your case calls for it, we go deeper.

Some answers aren't in blood. When your symptoms point there, we add the testing that finds them, and your plan changes with what we learn.

Priorities · sample plan

Your Biggest Food Needle-Movers

  1. 1
Wild salmon three times a week, six ounces at a time

Your omega-3 index is in the highest-risk band, with an AA:EPA ratio of 35 against a target under 8. Salmon also carries the vitamin D and selenium you're low on.

    Omega-3 index3.3%target above 8%
  2. 2
Thirty-five to forty grams of protein at every meal, starting with breakfast

Your kidney filtration is excellent and your BUN sits at the floor of the range. You're under-eating protein, and it's costing you muscle and steady blood sugar.

    BUN8 mg/dLfloor of the range
  3. 3
Three pastured eggs and a cup of crimini mushrooms, most mornings

Choline, B2 and B12 on one plate: the three things a homocysteine of 14.8 is waiting on.

    Homocysteine14.8 µmol/Ltarget under 7
  4. 4
Grass-fed beef twice a week and a handful of pumpkin seeds every day

Zinc runs thyroid conversion, immunity and ovulation. Beef and pumpkin seeds are your two richest everyday sources.

    RBC zinc9.6 mg/Ltarget 12–14
  5. 5
Two tablespoons of ground flax, every day

The lignans support estrogen balance, and the same soluble fiber helps bring your ApoB down.

    ApoB112 mg/dLtarget under 80
  6. 6
Twenty minutes of midday sun on most days

Sunlight is still the most efficient vitamin D you can make, alongside the D3 in your protocol.

    Vitamin D32 ng/mLtarget 50–80

Omega-3 fish oilEPA + DHA softgels
    2,000 mg a dayWith dinner

Your cell membranes are running on too little EPA and DHA. This is the fastest way to bring the index up, alongside salmon three times a week.

  2. 2
    Vitamin D3 + K2Softgel
    5,000 IU D3 + 100 mcg K2With breakfast

D3 raises your level; K2 helps direct calcium into bone. Retested at 90 days so the dose can come down once you're in range.

    Vitamin D32 ng/mLGoal 50–80 ng/mL
  3. 3
Iron bisglycinate + vitamin CGentle chelated iron
25 mg, every other dayWith lunch

Low iron is what's throttling your thyroid conversion. Every-other-day dosing absorbs better and is easier on the stomach.

What is a personalized nutrition consultation?

It's a nutrition plan built for one person. We look at your history in detail, your advanced bloodwork, a Traditional Chinese Medicine tongue diagnosis, an InBody body composition scan and any advanced testing your case needs, then write a plan that includes every meal: the foods your body does well with, the most healing foods for your specific body, conditions and goals, and custom-formulated herbs, nutrients and supplements.

Can I book the nutrition consultation on its own?

Yes. You can book personalized nutrition on its own, or add it to your bloodwork, a program or your therapies. Most patients find it makes everything else they do here work better.

Do I need bloodwork first?

Your plan is built from your labs, so bloodwork is part of the process. If you're already a patient, we use the panel you've done. If you're new, we'll recommend the panel that fits your case on your free discovery call.

Is this a diet or a meal plan?

Neither, in the usual sense. It isn't a one-size diet, and it isn't a generic meal plan. It's a written plan for every meal of your week, built around your results, with the reasons attached so you know why each food is there.

What is tongue diagnosis?

Tongue diagnosis is a core assessment in Traditional Chinese Medicine. The color, coating, shape, moisture and cracks of the tongue reflect patterns in digestion, circulation, heat and fluid balance. We read it alongside your Western labs, two languages describing the same body, and it shapes both your foods and your herbal formula.

What does the InBody scan measure, and is it safe?

InBody measures skeletal muscle, body fat, visceral fat, water balance and phase angle in about a minute, standing on a scale-like device while holding the handles. It uses a very low, painless electrical signal. It isn't used for people with a pacemaker or other implanted electronic device, so tell us if that applies to you.

Are the herbs and supplements safe with my medications?

Every herb and supplement in your protocol is screened against your medications and history before it's recommended, and you'll get the form, dose and timing written down. Nothing is guesswork.

I'm vegetarian, or I have foods I won't eat. Does that work?

Yes. Your plan is built around the way you eat, your culture, your schedule and your cooking style. We'll find the most healing foods within your preferences.

Is personalized nutrition covered by insurance?

We don't bill insurance. Most services are HSA and FSA eligible, and we'll quote your consultation in writing before anything is booked.

Your discovery call is free. We'll tell you whether personalized nutrition on its own or as part of your care is the better fit, and exactly what it costs.
